FIFA will host a special edition of its Football Law Annual Review, dedicated entirely to the new FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, (RSTP) on 29 October 2026.
Approved unanimously by the Bureau of the FIFA Council on 10 June 2026, the revised regulations represent a major step forward in the evolution of the global transfer system and will come into force on 1 January 2027. Developed through a collaborative process involving FIFPRO, EFC, the World Leagues Association and the confederations, the new framework aims to provide a balanced, transparent and modernised system while protecting contractual stability and the integrity of football competitions. The special edition will bring together leading experts who were closely involved in the development and implementation of the new framework. The programme will include an examination of some of the most significant changes, including the determination of compensation for breach of contract, sporting sanctions, new provisions concerning contracts of minor players, joint and several liability, players’ participation in transfer fees and the implications of the Court of Justice of the European Union’s ruling in the Diarra case. The event will be conducted exclusively online and is open to anyone interested in football law and regulation. It is particularly relevant for executives and other representatives from FIFA Member Associations, confederations, leagues, clubs and players’ unions, as well as agents and lawyers working in football. All presentations will be delivered in English, with simultaneous interpretation into French and Spanish. The Football Law Annual Review Special Edition 2026 will be streamed live on FIFA.com on Thursday, 29 October, with all event times being communicated in Central European Time (CET).
