The draw procedures for the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Play-Off Tournament are now available on FIFA.com. The draw itself will take place at the Home of FIFA in Zurich at 14:00 local time (CEST) on Thursday, 20 August 2026 and will be streamed live on FIFA.com, TikTok and YouTube.

An additional highlight of the live draw show will be the presentation of the match schedule for the final tournament. The first version of the calendar of games will unveil which fixtures each of the eight venues will host, as well as where hosts Brazil will play their group stage matches.

The draw will be assisted by Jill Ellis, FIFA's Chief Football Officer and two-time FIFA Women's World Cup™ winner, and former France international Laura Georges, who recently joined FIFA as Head of Strategic Football Development.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ Play-off Tournament consists of two phases: a preliminary phase scheduled to take place during the international window starting on 24 November and finishing on 5 December 2026, followed by a final phase, which will be held during the international window starting on 23 February and finishing on 6 March 2027. Exact dates and hosts will be confirmed in due course.

The draw for the preliminary phase will determine how the six qualified teams will be divided into three tiers of two teams each. The draw for the final phase, which will be conducted later this year, will determine how the six participating teams (two teams advancing from the preliminary phase and the four teams that qualify directly for the final phase) are divided into three paths, which will decide the final three teams to qualify for FIFA’s flagship women’s tournament.

Draw procedures for the preliminary phase of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Play-Off Tournament The six teams that have qualified for the play-off tournament (Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan from the AFC, South Africa and Ghana from CAF, Ecuador from CONMEBOL and Papua New Guinea from the OFC) will be allocated to three pots according to the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women's World Ranking, as updated on 16 June 2026. The two highest-ranked teams will be placed in pot 1, the next two highest-ranked teams in pot 2 and the remaining two teams in pot 3. The seeding for the draw is as follows: Pot 1: Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan Pot 2: South Africa and Papua New Guinea Pot 3: Ghana and Ecuador

The draw will begin with the first team picked from pot 1 being assigned as team A1, followed by the second team as team A2. The draw will then continue by drawing all of the teams from pots 2 and 3, in that order. As per FIFA's general principle, teams from the same confederation shall not be drawn to play against each other. If a team is drawn into a position that would result in such a situation, the team shall be allocated to the next available position.

The teams will be assigned to nine pre-defined match fixtures as per the draw procedures. Each team will play a total of three matches, with those finishing first and second overall in the preliminary phase advancing to the final phase.

Those two teams will join the four teams that qualify directly for the final phase (two from Concacaf, Venezuela from CONMEBOL and one from UEFA). The final phase will consist of single-match ties, with the winner of each match securing one of the last three places at next year’s global extravaganza.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 will bring the world together across eight vibrant Host Cities in Brazil, one of football's greatest nations, between 24 June and 25 July 2027.
